Doll in Sack Back Dress

The sack, or saque, back dress was the most commonly worn dress throughout
the 18^th century. It evolved from a negligee, with large pleats flowing
from the shoulders, using the entire width of the fabric. It was worn over a wide petticoat,
often of the same fabric, and highly decorated with frills and other trimmings.
