George II Suite with 'Flame Stitch' Upholstery

The George II Suite is based one sold by auction at Christies in 1998. The suite consisted of 6 side chairs, 2 wing chairs, 2 sofas and several stools, and was attributed to William Hallet. It was purchased in 1735 to furnish Upton House in Warwickshire. The suite is upholstered in a silk fabric that evokes a red and yellow flame stitch design that is in keeping with the period of the chairs. The pieces were designed for a grand and large room so are generously proportioned. |
